Old Tuareg tcherot pendant in brass, copper and other mixed metals. Engraved design is a beautiful and precise geometric design, typical of Tuareg jewelry. These pendants are traditionally worn by men as protective amulets against the evil spirits that haunt isolated desert places. This one is a bit smaller than most you probably have seen, but not by much. To some Islamic observers the traditional shape represents the Quran, but to others it represents an older star design, remeniscent of pre-Islamic pagan gods. About 2.25 inches long and 2 inches wide. Brass back. Tunnel through the top edge for stringing.
