This is a newly produced piece in an old Central Asian style.
Hand carved wooden comb adorned with pressed metal and glass and glass insets. One side is a wider tooth and the other narrower. Meausres 3.75 inches by 2.75 inches. Perfect for Renaissance Faire costuming or other events where authenticity is important. I used to see old versions these combs quite a bit but have not in a very long time. This comb is a fairly good new representation and I am happy to see that someone has begun making them again in the old style.
Central Asia is home to many formerly nomadic tribal groups. The five largest are the Uzbek, Kazakh, Tajik, Turkmen, and Kyrgyz peoples. Central Asia connects Eastern Asia and Europe, and the Silk Road - the route over which goods from many different cultures were transported - passed through its heart . The legacy of the Silk Road lives on in the ornamentation and adornment of Cental Asian people today, and incorporates elements from many different cultures and countries.
